Hugo Award Nominations now open

The nominations for the 2014 Hugo Awards, and the 1939 Retro Hugos, are now open. The awards, named for SF legend Hugo Gernsback, have been referred to as “the Oscars of SF&F”

From the Loncon 3 Website:

The deadline for all nominating ballots to be received by the Hugo administrator is Monday 31 March 2014, 11.59 pm PDT (7.59 am BST on Tuesday 1 April – UK time).

Members of Loncon 3 who have an Attending, Young Adult Attending or Supporting membership by 31 January 2014 are eligible to nominate for the Hugo Awards and the Retro-Hugos. Equivalent members of LoneStarCon 3 (the 2013 Worldcon) and Sasquan (the 2015 Worldcon) at that date are also eligible to nominate.

Full information here

While nominations can be made by any member of any Worldcon between 2013 and 2015, only Loncon members will be eligible to vote for the actual winners.

The Retro Hugos is a tradition whereby, on the anniversary of years when there was a Worldcon, but no Hugos awarded, a separate set of awards are given out to works that would have been eligible back then. Since 1939 was the first instance of what is now known as Worldcon, London is hosting the Retro Hugos for that year, 75 years on.

The Base Design Competition is still open.
